Dog Lover's Must Have Jan 11, 2007

I purchased this book on the recommendation of a friend and I was not disappointed. This book gives you an overview of many different medical problems that your pet may encounter. Then they break it down into what the Vet will recommend, followed by what other things you can do to treat the pet holistically, either as an accompaniment to the vet's recommendations, or instead of (this is your choice of course). It's very well written, easy to read and understand. Many times these types of books sound good, but are disappointing when you read them. This one is not disappointing and I honestly believe every pet owner should have this as an important reference.

Great book for animal care Feb 18, 2010
By Maizee This book is fabulous and touches on many aspect of your animals wellness. Very practical, common sense and written so it is easy to understand. Parallels how we as humans should eat and take care of ourselves using good nutrients and vitamins and supplements when needed. Our dog suffers from seizures and this book has not only been helpful but great in understanding what we can do to help strengthen her immune system and make her as healthly as possible. It is too soon to tell whether she will benefit and have less seizures but we feel good about giving her the best food and best chance possible for optimum health. Fran

Good health for you and your dog Nov 03, 2009

A friend lended me this book to help my ailing pet, but I ended up buying it after reading most of it. Nothing could save my dog, but the book really helped me understand a lot. One of the best parts of this book is the information on choosing a good pet food. Secondly, each condition that was discussed is dissected in great detail and helps you to understand the pathophysiology of your pet but also give you a nutritional idea for yourself. I love the recipes and suggestions in this book; they are easy to try and easy to understand. If you want to be more holistic with your pets or at least give the holistic side a chance this is a great book to explore that option with. I've tried things in it for my cats and our other dog and have seen results in both animal species.

If you love your cat, read this book Jul 31, 2007

This is one of the most helpful books that I've read on the subject of feline health and nutrition. I'm not one of those frou-frou, holistic, health nuts, who would try to feed organic granola to my cat, but having recently lost a twenty-three year-old feline friend to cancer, I have become far more conscious of what goes into my cats' bodies. While I may at time make wrong food choices for myself, my cats are depending on me to make the right choices for them, and the Goldsteins, through their book, have given me a lot to think about, much of which I've already implemented.
Added on January 18, 2012: My cats are now 22, 22, 21, and 10 years of age, and they are all doing fine. As a basic food, they eat Blue Buffalo kibble, alternating between the various Blue Buffalo choices. Given the ages of the three older cats, I am concerned about their hydration and, with four cats, it's hard to tell how much water any of the individual cats are drinking. To ensure hydration, I have been splitting a 5.5 ounce can of cat food between the four cats in the morning and another at night. I let them decide what they like to eat, to a large extent, but they have to choose from foods that I have pre-approved, my criteria being no soy, corn, wheat, or gluten of any kind, and with poultry, fish or meat as the first ingredient.
