Finally, a relaible heater Jun 22, 2010 I have small tanks in a variety of sizes from 3 to 12 gallons and it's been a challenge to get a heater that actually works. Marineland's heater I would set at 68 in my 12 gallon and it would suddenly climb to 84, then plummet and go back down to room temperature at 74. It did that repeatedly. So, the marineland heater went in the trash. This is built for only 7 gallons, but heats my 12 gallon, 6 gallon, and 3 gallon equally well. It holds them all at steady 78-79 degrees and I don't have to worry about it. Having an accurate, reliable heater is an incredible relief and I'll never buy from a different brand again. The fact that it's not even an expensive heater makes it even better.
Not too hot, not too cold Jun 09, 2010 I bought a Marineland 10W heaters for my 2.5 gallon tank, but found that it overheated the water way too much. That heater may have a sensor that tells it when the water temp is too cold, but it does not shut off when the water temp skyrockets above 78 degrees Fahrenheit.
This heater, on the other hand, while larger and more obtrusive, does a much better job in regulating water temperature. I never have to worry about finding my tank temps in the high 80s the way I did with the other heater. Also, the fact that it has a regulator dial is a huge plus. While the dial calibration may be off by a degree or two, it does work. You turn it up, the water temp goes up (but not too high). Also, the little indicator light is a nice way of checking that the heater is on and working.
Even for small tanks, I would skip the unregulated 7.5W and 10W heaters and go with this one.

Perfectly accurate! Apr 18, 2010 It warms up the water slowly but efectively, which is good because it gives my Betta the chance get custom to the temperature change, so it doesn't drastically affect him.
It automatically powers OFF when the desired temperature is reached, and goes back ON when necessary.
I compared its temperature with a Thermometer, and it was extremely accurate.
It looks beautiful, it's small but powerfull. Pretty modern and stylish! I LOVE IT!!!

High Quality Heater for Nano Tanks Mar 02, 2010 I purchased this for an Eclipse Hex 5 tank and it works perfectly. Heater is very accurate - I have it set at 78 degrees, and my thermometer verifies that the water is actually 78 degrees. There is an orange light inside the glass tube near the top that glows to let you know the heater is on, and when the water reaches the set temperature the light turns off to indicate that the heater is off. The heater is very high quality and feels very durable. The package also includes two suction cup mounts.
Like a previous commenter noted, the actual heater is shorter / stubbier than the one pictured. It worked out great for me since the Hex 5 tank isn't that tall.

Nice heater for a good price Jan 09, 2010 I bought this for a five gallon betta tank I have and I love it! The temperature dial is a nice feature and it seems to keep the tank at whatever I set the dial on. I now have it in a 2 gallon hospital tank and it also works great for that. Since it is a smaller volume of water, obviously I have to keep an eye on it but it's kept the temp. pretty steady. I'm glad I bought this.
