Niagara Falls? Jul 02, 2010 Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3ECR360XQ9MMG Well, not really. I had a whole different use in mind for this pump. I have a couple fountains in my rear yard, and algae has become a real pain on the one with a 55 inch pond base. No matter WHAT chemical I try, it comes back after just 2-3 weeks and when I cleaned it & replaced the water, I even did the following.
1-Drained
2-Scrubbed ALL surfaces with Bleach & White Vinegar
3-Let it sit in the direct sunlight for 7 days to kill any surviving algae spores
OK, all this and I have tried every chemical on the market with NO success. Spent $145.00 in just 9 months trying eco friendly stuff, because I care, kill ALL the wildlife stuff (sorry...), and everything in between. Tried bromine tablets in floaters, just tossed into each tier directly AND in the pond base. Did the same with chlorine. NOTHING helps but the chlorine helps the best. It's tough since this 3 tier fountain is in direct sunlight all day in a warm San Diego Climate.
So why this pump? Well I am just doing an experiment with trying to keep the water moving. First, I took my wife's little indoor rock fountain apart and stole her Sunterra 104506 Table Top Fountain Pump 30 GPH, Black. Now this is a cute little pump. For her 10 inch high joke of an indoor fountain anyway? And after seeing it barely moved any water in my big MANLY outdoor fountain, after having my behind chewed off for a week, after tears asking why I destroyed her little rock fountain....Well, it just wore me down! I did what Tim Taylor (Tool Time), would do, MORE POWER! Plus, I have now returned her sissy pump to her and told her good luck figuring out how it all went together before I tore it all apart. She's still not talking to me yet.
I want to see if the algae has a tougher time growing if I place this pump in the pond base, aim it to direct water in a sort of "whirlpool" effect. It will be a day or two before I get a piece of plastic tubing to add to the pump housing to increase the spinning action. Nonetheless, it is doing a remarkable job already! I put some old bottles and stuff in to allow me to see the movement created by just this pump, before even adding the tubing to increase the flow intensity. Now we will sit & wait. It may help, may not. I will update once I know. I will also update how well the pump holds up as far as reliability goes.
What I Like:
1-LONG Outdoor Cord! Outdoor rated as well (but from China of course...)
2-GOOD Flow, even before I add the plastic tubing to increase that flow.
3-Pump has a convenient & EASY flow adjustment. Too much? Just rotate "dial" on pump. Too little? Rotate the other direction.
4-EASY to open package.
5-QUIET. I can't hear it over the loud sound of the 3 tier fountain & pond. NO vibration felt either.
What I do not like?
1-Nothing yet. Will update if I find something.
Sunterra 200 gph water pump Jun 22, 2010 I bought this pump to use for an Eagle project at my brother's elementary school. It works fine other than it's kind of small for a 200 gallon pond and I probably should have got a bigger one. Also the cord was about 6" too short to reach the outlet and we had to go buy an extension cord. Again it works fine and circulates the water to keep the mosquitoes from breeding.

Homebrewing - gets the job done Jun 11, 2010 I was looking for a small pump to push ice water from a cooler through a copper cooling coil. There wasn't a whole lot of force behind it, but this one did the job well. It also came with a few nozzle options to connect the tubing.
Pump is certainly good for the price Jun 04, 2010 I don't know if I would call this a "large fountain pump". I bought it for our fountain which is a medium fountain with a 4 foot lift height. The pump arrived and it looked kind of small, I was skeptical. It does work, and certainly for $23 it's worth it. Even if it only lasts a couple of years its worth it. I had a much larger pump, that this Sunterra pump replaced, which moved more water than this little one and it failed after 2.5 years (warranty 1 year). It was three times the price. The flow is a little weak for a 4 foot lift height, but it is adequate, and if it keeps working the way it does now, I would be happy with it.
Weak Flow May 25, 2010 It was too weak for my fountain.
After I opened the box, I can't return or exchange.
