1I strongly suggest you *not* use this test kit.  May 01, 2012

Short answer: Don't buy this. You do need to test for these levels but not this way.

More informaton, if that's helpful: It's important to test the chemistry in your aquarium/fish tank. The basics of the cycled fish tank: Ammonia, Nitrate, and Nitrite should be measured on some schedule. This kit purports to be able to test both Nitrate and Nitrate.

Technically, the kit does give such possibility. However, you know how you probably do your other tests by filling a tube, putting some drops in, and seeing what color shows up on the index card? That's nice, convenient, and wht I suggest you purchase. (Don't buy test strips - inaccurate and overpriced.)

Wait until you see what you have to do with this kit. Test tube? No, no, no. Tiny plastic tray (six little cups in a tiny thin tray, the entire tray is smaller than a credit card), with an itty bitty spoon, which you'll need to scoop level scoops of testing powder into the liquid. It's a chore and a nuisance, and it need not be.

The accuracy is not assured either. It comes with a little vile of "test water" for when you think the tiny tray cups have been contaminated. You see, as the product insert lets the customer know, the test substance for the second test, if not completely cleaned out before you put this away until next time, will then show a false positive for the next time you run the first test in that same tiny cup.

This is the most ridiculous aquarium testing kit or product I've ever encountered. I am not an expert, just a hobbyist, but I have kept healthy tanks off an on for 15 years. Cheers!

5easier and quicker than the other brand  May 26, 2012

This version of the nitrate test is easier and quicker than the AP version. Two squirts of aquarium water in the test well two drops of reagent and one scoop of powder and a small stir and it gives results in five minutes. Way better than the AP version where you have to shake the bottles and tube for a few minutes. Plus you can do up to six tests at a time if you want or do simultaneous nitrite and nitrate tests at once. As for the other reviewer saying it gets contaminated, that's just if you are too lazy to wash the test card well.
