Royal Canin Mini Breed Dachshund (28) Formula

For adult Dachshunds over 10 months of age. The special properties of the Dachshund, such as its characteristic body shape and very short legs make it a very unusual breed that needs special attention. The Dachshund is well known for sensitive joints, with very short, bowed legs--the cartilage of long bones ossifies prematurely, causing leg growth to end early. This formula provides support for joints and optimum irrigation of cartilage through the inclusion of chondroitin, glucosamine, and EPA/DHA , which have well known anti-inflammatory properties. Dachshunds have a vertebrae that are subjected to heavy mechanical strain on a daily basis. However the shorter an animal's legs, the less ability they have to absorb shock. This formula provides nutritional support for the backbone by helping to maintain muscle tone and optimum healthy body weight with a high protein diet that contains only 14% fat. The addition of conjugated linoleic acid helps preserve muscle tone at the expense of fatty cells and L-carnitine is added to help the body metabolize fat. Helps maintain correct bucco-dental hygiene. Kibbles have a specially designed texture that produces a brushing effect which results in the reduction of dental plaque formation. Also includes chelating agents that slow tartar development by fixing the calcium present in the saliva. Ingredients: Chicken meal, brown rice, brewers rice, oatmeal, wheat gluten, corn gluten meal, chicken fat, chicken, natural chicken flavor, dried beet pulp (sugar removed), rice hulls, salt, anchovy oil, soya oil, potassium chloride, calcium carbonate, cellulose, fructo-oligosaccharides, choline chloride, hydrolyzed vegetable oil (CLA), sodium tripolyphosphate, taurine*, Vitamins [DL-alpha tocopherol (source of vitamin E), inositol, niacin supplement, L-ascorbyl-2- polyphosphate (source of vitamin C*), d-calcium pantothenate, biotin, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), riboflavin supplement (vitamin B2).

5I cannot say enough about this product  Mar 10, 2006
By Jason Keehr
In the beginning, we were having problems with our dachshund's breath, whining, eating habits and a very poor coat. My friend has been working at pet stores for several years and I decided to ask him what we could do about his breath. He immediately said Royal Canin is the food to go with and that they made specifically a dachshund blend. I went price shopping and found that Amazon had the best price and went ahead with it. A few days later the food arrived and within a week, noticeable differences were there. His breath smell went to almost no smell at all. His hide was starting to soften up, which now it is very soft. The whining even went down by 50% I would say. The real funny part was when we went through the whole bag after a couple of months. I forgot to order a new bag and still had the old stuff we were feeding him and we just fed him that, or try to anyway. He was so bummed out. We couldn't really figure out what was wrong with him. He was lying on the floor near the fireplace and whenever the cat came close he would growl and chase him away. Then after deliberating with my wife I thought I realized what the problem was, you see, I had rolled up the bag to burn it in the fireplace and he was protecting the bag from the cat and he was literally guarding it. After realizing this, I pulled out the bag and laid it on the ground for him to lie on and roll over. I just couldn't believe it; he was in love with this food that he would go to such lengths to keep it. I took some pictures since I didn't think anyone would believe me, but it is true. Royal Canin is to me the best dog food there is out there for my pet. I wish they made a cat food too!!!

5Quality of Life Improvement for my senior dog  Feb 01, 2012
By Hijgj11158
I too can't say enough good things about this product. Within a few feedings my senior dog, with joint problems, was acting like his young self again. The formula really works for my "boys." The only problem had been trying to locate the dog food locally. With Amazon (and Prime Shipping), I no longer have issues trying to keep the dog food in stock.

1Bring the big bag back  Mar 15, 2010
By Rene Gunter
This use to be the only food I fed my dachsunds. But they made the bag smaller and raised the price, so now they can keep it! I now feed them Rachel Ray's Nutrish, they love it and their coats are so shiny and soft. I never saw that with the Royal Canin.
