5A alage product that finally works  Apr 18, 2006
By DKH
I have tried SAB, and other products, but none does the job like Alagefix. It knocks out string alage and keeps my 4000 gallon pond, 20 foot stream, & waterfall clean and clear, but yet keeps the eco-system in check. It is not harmful to my fish or my cat who likes to drink out of the pond (I think he likes to do a little fishing of his own, but luckly he is not very good at it). I usuallly add about a 1/2 cup in the skimmer once a week or every other week depending upon the weather conditions. It nice to find a product that does what it claims to do.

5Best I've Found...  Jul 01, 2007
By BIGDOGS "I Miss Shea"
I have researched and tried several products that claim to control string algae and green water algae. This is the best product I've ever tried. Our fish have never gasped for air after an application of AlgaeFix, but have after other products. And our plants have never shown any ill effects. I'm pretty conservative with products like this so that I don't hurt our fish. So, I would recommend following the instructions to be safe, but THIS PRODUCT WORKS!

5great stuff!  Aug 29, 2007
By Satisfied Pond Owner
I've wrestled with algae for years. We have a 18'x28' pond, and in the past I've had to rake the algae out at least once a week, leaving huge piles of it on the lawn to dry out. I've tried barley and other formulations with only modest results. But for the last three years I've been using Algaefix and have had NO algae at all! Since finding algaefix, I've only had to rake the pond once or twice, in the spring, when I was a little slow in applying the first treatment. Once I begin adding it (a single weekly dose), there are no algae strings at all. Wonderful product, and it doesn't harm the many birds, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits and deer who drink from the pond. We have no fish or aquatic plants, but I have had to remove grass which seems to sprout from grass seed scattered by the wind, so it appears the product is specific to algae, as advertised.

1bad for the fish  Sep 10, 2010
By floyd0514
I used this product two days ago at first i noticed that the fish started to surface after using it as recommended i had aeration ( fountain , pump and waterfall ) in my pond all the time. The water clears out as it kills the algae but sadly almost all the fish died and others become sluggish .Yes it kills the algae but it kills also the fish .

1Kills Koi - very dangerous chemical  Oct 30, 2010
By N. Whiting
AlgaeFix directions include: "For synthetically lined pond and fountain use only, where all water is contained without any outflow." Add 60 ml. for each 600 gallons, repeat dose every three days until algae is controlled. Once algae growth is under control, add one dose per week.
There is no notation of a maximum dose.
We have an 8500 gallon outdoor pond with a waterfall; it has been installed for more than 15 years. To control algae we have used UV lights, filters, shade and nutrient control. Because we sometimes were bothered by excess green water, I decided to try this product.
The first application seemed to have little effect, however with the subsequent doses the water became remarkably clear. The effect was so complete that I did not continue to add the weekly doses unless some clouding was seen.
I did notice that with subsequent treatments the koi seemed to be progressively more bothered. They would not eat for a day or two after AlgaeFix was added.
Later in the summer the water clouded and I resumed weekly treatments however the water did not clear. I then went to every three days. With the second application the koi seemed to be more troubled than previously and after the third treatment they did not eat at all.
By the second day it was clear they were very sick. The pond waterfall was in continuous operation and secondary aeration was added with the second dose. I further increased aeration. The koi were not coming to the surface gasping or displaying any oxygen hunger. Just very ill and listless.
They began to die and continued doing so despite water exchanges. We lost two-thirds of the koi, several more than a decade old.
I then did a Google search looking for a remedy and was very surprised to discover that others have had the same experience with this chemical.
I do not recommend use of this product unless you are prepared to lose all your koi.
