5all right by me !!!  Feb 12, 2008
By Matthew G. Sherwin
Petmate makes a great, affordable, kitty litter box with a cover for kitties who like a bit more privacy when they use their litter box. Many cats don't like to be seen using their uncovered litter boxes--mine got scared or perhaps intimidated one day when I accidentally walked into the restroom while he was using his uncovered litter box. After that I switched to this model and I haven't had any regrets. It works very well; and my kitty seems quite satisfied.

The top can be attached to the bottom for carrying purposes; but I find it easier to just leave the top on the litter box unhooked so that I can easily clean it out at the end of the day. (My cat always looks at the box as I empty it out; he must wonder what on Earth I'm doing.)

Another obvious advantage to this type of litter box is that when kitty wants to kick around the litter after doing his business, the litter will be contained inside the covered litter box. That's really a great help as nobody likes the floors in their home to be covered with litter residue and granules. Great!

The entire litter box, both top and bottom, can easily be cleaned. I clean mine thoroughly once or sometimes even twice a week. In addition, because this model has no "steps" for kitty to climb up into and out of the covered littler box, there is no chance of kitty doing his business on the front steps! If your kitty scatters a bit of litter around the outside of the front entrance, I would suggest what another reviewer cleverly did--lay down some fake grass at the front entrance as a type of "welcome mat" so that any scattered litter right in front of the covered box will stay almost completely on the "welcome mat."

There is one drawback that leaves some cat owners a bit disappointed. Be prepared for that initial moment when you remove the top of the litter box. I would breathe through my mouth for a minute or two; there will be "fumes" or a smell that may not be so pleasant.

Overall, however, I would recommend this covered litter box. It's affordable; and I think the type of plastic is definitely sturdy enough for this type of use. The tope comes off easily for cleaning and you won't get litter scattered about all over your floor.

1TOO small of a litter pan  Mar 23, 2007
By C. Lawler
All my cats are large sized and they had a very hard time getting in and out of the litter pan. The hood is hard to get on and off for cleaning. It is only for small cats, kittens or maybe ferrets too. The price isn't bad, only if your buying it for a small cat or kitten.

The color is wrong, it's a dark pink pan with a light pink hood.

Looks big, but isn't.

I was very disappointed about it.

The hood does not stay latched to the box so you can not carry it as a unit.

1Lid does not stay on  Jun 20, 2010
By skier4ever
Purchased 2 boxes, lid is not a tight fit. If cat backs in whichever they enter, sometimes urine is left on the inside rim. Happens on both units. Nice box, the important part is terrible. To close you have to press on the sides, that could have come in contact with urine or feces. I would not recommend.

4Basic, fine, well-priced  Sep 02, 2007
By Pennsylvania Reader
This is a basic, functional, economical litter box. I bought it to replace a dysfunctional automatic LitterMaid box. This works well for my cat, who at one point was 15 lbs. (smaller now, but she had no problem using it when larger). Measure your current litter box and compare with dimensions in description if you aren't sure, though. I consider it to be typical size. It's deeper than many boxes. The color is exactly as shown, pastel pink with a fuschia pink base. I have no desire to lug the filled box around, so I never clip it; I merely rest the top on the base unclipped and it's very easy to lift off the top for cleaning. If you have a cat who paws territorially or vigorously inside the box, you might need to clip it and it might not be a good choice. I use an indoor-outdoor carpeting (fake grass) welcome mat at the entrance to prevent tracked litter. Two drawbacks of this box are the lack of flap door (but some cats don't like those) and the fact that interested dogs can easily snout around inside the opening (but I haven't seen a box that prevents that). It's not perfect, but it's perfectly decent.
