Proprietary Battery Required Jul 04, 2009
By William F. Whirl The battery only worked from June 3rd to July 4th. One Month! That's when I discovered that the collar ONLY takes PetSafe's, DISPOSABLE, proprietary, RFA-67 battery. The sales description makes it sound like PetSafe is throwing in a free battery with the new collar but doesn't explain that, unlike my other UL-275 receivers; the collar can't use standard lithium batteries from Wal*mart or K-mart. You have to buy PetSafe's battery if you want it to work for another month!

Works as promised Aug 08, 2007

Radio system products have always performed well for me. If you are thinking of electrically fencing in your dog, I have had 10+ years of problem free use with the system. The collars just wear out every 4-5 years though. Two thumbs up for this product.

This is a good product, but I might be more inclined to get the
stronger collar next time.

Petsafe extra collar Apr 22, 2008
By Jacqueline Desantis

this product is in and of itself very nice. However, it was not compatible with my particular model of wireless fence. WHich is not, of coiurse the sellers fault. The product has no information on th packaging regarding what is it compatible with. I spoke with PetSafe rep and she informed me that as far as she knew, there is not a Universal collar made for their systems. You must putchase the correct model #.

Best for small/very passive dogs - look at stubborn collar instead Apr 16, 2009
By Charlotte reader We bought this for our fairly calm golden retriever and it worked well until he figured out that it was worth the mild shock to get to the interesting smells beyond the fence. At first we felt guilty that we would "hurt" him with the shock, so tested it on ourselves and it really is about the same feel as when you shock yourself with static electricity -- uncomfortable but no pain. After a few weeks of him running the fence, we lost our fear of hurting him and ordered the "stubborn" dog collar (which I thought of for more pit bull/german shepherd dogs, not this teddy bear of a retriever.) Despite having to buy 2 collars now (actually 3 because he somehow got off and chewed up the first), I am thankful to Petsafe for providing a more economical route of electric fence than the big companies who only offer a total package with installation. Am hoping that the stubborn collar works better. Also like it that the stubborn collar works with 9V batteries that we can find at drugstore rather than having to special order ones.
