Fantastic, Orthopedic Pet Bed - Great for the Price! Jan 03, 2009
By JET I am really thrilled with this pet bed, as I think it is a bargain for the price. I have a pug who is 6 or 7 years old, has some arthritis, and enjoys sitting in the sun or in front of the fire. It took some getting used to, but she seems to really like it.
Here are a few things I love about this bed, and reasons why I think it is surprising that it costs so little:
-It is a decent size, and perfect for my pugs. Even my (very large) cats can fit in it. -The mattress/cushion is a space foam/Tempurpedic-like/egg crate material that seems really comfortable, especially for older pets or pets with orthopedic problems. -The cover is soft and removable for washing. -There is an easy plug, a little pin that inserts close to the bed with a long cord going to the wall or power strip. In other words, I can plug this into the wall and just use the quick plug to unplug it since it's close to the bed. No need to pull it out from the wall each time. -The heater works, but doesn't get hot to the touch. It works with your pet's body warmth to keep them warm and comfortable. -The price is great compared to other types of pet beds I've seen for the same price or even more, and not with as many features.
I should also note a couple of things. First, another reviewer noted that the instructions said that you can't keep the bed plugged in all the time, but I didn't read that in my instructions. I use the quick plug, as noted above, but I didn't see that it said to unplug it after a certain amount of time. Second, I also want to note that Amazon has this the cheapest. I found this originally on a pet supply site, and it was more expensive there. Plus, you get free shipping with Amazon.

Works very well Dec 12, 2009
By Spirit of 76 With a geriatric cat in the house, I do what I can to keep her comfortable, especially in the cool months. This is a good way to keep cats warm. The "mini" size is the perfect size for one non-obese cat to curl up in, with room left over for a litter of kittens, as well.
I read all the other reviews before buying this and noted some of the complaints. Some claim that it's not hot enough or soft enough. Think about it for a minute. Have you ever had a cat climb into your lap and promptly go to sleep? This bed is no harder than your lap, and about as warm. When my cat gets into it, she purrs as if she was in my lap and appreciates that the heat is constant, unlike the radiators in the house which cycle hot and cold. You can prove it to yourself by plugging it in then putting your hands on it about 30 minutes later. It won't feel instantly warm like an electric heater, but after about 30 seconds, your palms will feel comfortable. If any skeptics think that's just the foam insulating your palms, try moving your hands to the outer edges of the foam pad. You'll feel a definite difference between the center and the edge. For those of you worried about unplugging it, "when not in use" obviously refers to warm weather or when you're leaving on vacation and taking your pet with you. Mine stays plugged in all the time and hasn't caused a fire yet. It's ETL listed for both the US and Canada. ETL Testing Laboratories is comparable to the better-known (within the US) Underwriters Laboratories. The heating pad draws a meager 9 watts. You're more likely to have a fire with your average 1000-watt space heater.
One thing you can try if your pet likes to chew on cords is to wrap the cord in a few layers of crumpled aluminum foil, an old trick. Many pets don't like the feel and sound of chewing on foil. You can also try sprinkling hot chili flakes or ground pepper into the foil before wrapping the outermost layer. If they get through the first layer of foil, they'll hit the hot ingredient and hopefully find the taste repulsive. Just replace foil and flakes every few months to maintain potency.

Bed is being recalled Aug 05, 2010
By kitchee These beds are being recalled. The power adaptors that were sold with the heated beds from September 2006 through April 2010 are faulty. They can can cause an electrical arc when removed from the bed, posing a fire hazard. Stop using the power adaptor and contact the company at 800-732-2677 to receive a replacement. This came directly from the September 2010 issue of Consumer Reports.

Low Quality Product - Lack of Corporate interest in providing replacement parts. Jun 20, 2011
By Charlotte Asplund After two washings of the so called removable cover - the zipper died. Unfortunately this company does not stand by the product by offering a replacement cover - they expect you to purchase a completely new bed. I was happy with this right up until this instance. I would NEVER purchase from PetSafe again if they do not stand by customer satisfaction enough to provide replacement covers on a removable cover product.
Having spoken at length with their "Customer Care Department" I was told that the individuals in charge of this product do not take calls. They do not believe they would sell enough of these products to actually justify having the covers available as a replacement accessory. I find it sad in this day and age - that a company that manufactures this product, creates it as a standard part of their product line, obviously manufactures and has these covers available in their warehouses - which means they have a part number and idea of cost for it, are unwilling to sell such to interested consumers. Instead they tell people they will need to replace the entire bed. From a dollar and cents point of view, I understand the company wanting to make a buck - but not at the expense of customer service. This is not a company I will ever give another dollar to.

By D. Price Our cats love this bed. We have had it for two winters now, and it still works great. One of the cats is in it all day long!
