A good value Apr 29, 2010
By Eclectic Amazonian I used this feeder through the winter of 2009-2010. Stellar's Jays, Nuthatches, Juncos and Flickers all seem to be able to feed at it with no problems (though the Juncos prefer feeding on the fallen seeds under it). The feeder has withstood heavy rain, snowfall, severe freezes, and winds up to 65 mph without any issues. The suspension cable is very strong, though I'd recommend if you hang it instead of pole mounting, that you use 2 points of suspension, otherwise there is a tendency for the feeder to tip a little towards one of the ends. The clear plastic sides (all 4) do make it easy to see when it's running low on food at a long distance, and the lift-up cap is adequate for filling in place. It's also easy to clean. I have Abert's Squirrels in the area, and after lots of attempts to get to the food, they finally settled on jumping on it from above to knock a few seeds to the ground. It's not squirrel-proof, but it's not squirrel friendly either, which is a good thing when you are trying to feed the birds.
So why 4 stars instead of 5 (besides the slight tipping problem)? I had to go away for a while and when I came back, the birds had chewed off one of the perches, damaged the other, and tore the edges off the roof looking for seed. While this problem is not unique to this feeder, I think the perches are a bit flimsy and could be made of stronger plastic. That said, it's a good value for the money, and if you don't want to pay more for a wooden feeder like Perky Pet 50153 The Lodge Cedar Feeder, 8 lb capacity or a metal feeder like Heritage Farms Seeds n More Metal Hopper Bird Feeder, I'd go for this one - good for millet, sunflower seeds, and most mixes. Just be sure not to run out of seed so the birds don't have a reason to chew it up!

Perky Pet 309 Seed Barn Feeder Dec 28, 2009
By L. Fox This is a great sturdy birdfeeder that withstands many weather conditions. I like that it can also be pole mounted.

worse bird feeder ever Mar 07, 2011

We have had this bird feeder in use for less than two weeks. It is already falling apart. It is flimsy plastic, probably made in China. The main part of the feeder has already pulled off the base. There are plastic clips that clip the feeder into the base. These clips are breaking and do not hold the feeder on the base. I have bought many bird feeders in my life, and this is the worse ever. It should rate 0 stars.

Bird's like it May 27, 2010

Easy to install (has a metal cord for hanging and a pole mount). Birds have more room on this feeder than most so they seem to enjoy it. Easy to clean.

satisfied customer Jul 22, 2010
By Remington My neighbors and I have much fun watching the many wild birds this feeder attracts. I do like the capacity of it holding more than the feeder it replaced.
