1Bird bath leaks - a lot!  Mar 06, 2011
By GD
The good - our canary loves it and uses it a lot. The bad - the engineer who decided on how the two plastic parts fit together got it backwards or was not thinking of the product in actual use. A canary taking a bath sprays a lot of water about and the clear cover over the basin does a good job of containing that spray and stopping it from getting outside the cage. However, we all know water flows down hill - it runs down the inside wall of the clear piece until it gets to the join with the brown basin. Now, if the designer had made the "C" shaped slot on the brown basin part, the dripping water would drip off the inside face of the clear top back into the basin. He/she decided to mold the "C" shape join on the clear piece instead (ie it fits around the outside of the basin) so the sprayed water runs quickly down the inside face of the walls, around the joint with the basin and drips down onto our hardwood floor. Our canary is a pretty efficient feathered pump and manages to get enough water to do damage to the floor out of this thoughtlessly designed product every time he takes a bath. (I used 4 paper towels to wipe up just now).

Just looking at it, anyone with common sense would say it you need to have the top piece fit inside the bottom piece to keep the water in. The basin walls should enclose the joint between the two parts. Gluing it together is probably not a good idea - we are supposed to avoid potential toxins getting to birds. THIS NEEDS A SIMPLE REDESIGN - reverse the joint! (Put the C shape on the basin part and let the clear top slide into it. Then test it with a real bird. If required provide a drip edge extension on clear part below the joint).

Meantime - only buy this if your bird is in an area where water on the floor is not a problem.
