AMAZING product but not for all dogs. Got my Chihuahua to stop eating his own waste! Mar 09, 2012

My wife's (ok, and mine) Chihuahua is in the process of being housetrained. He will usually tell us when he needs to go outside but sometimes accidents happen. Whenever he poops inside the house, he will instantly eat his own stool and go back to running around. It's not a common occurrence but when this does happen; his breath becomes unbearable for HOURS. We spot him doing it a few times per week (maybe 2-3 times on average). One of us usually tells him to stop but before we are able to act on it, the poo is already eaten.
I tried three other products before reaching this one, all with no success. The good news is that this pill works! It really did stop our Chihuahua from eating his own crap. The main problem now is that I often find dog poo on our carpet. The second problem is that I really have to work to get my dog to eat this pill. I usually put it in with his food and that seems to work, but sometimes he will eat around it. I then have to give it to him with a treat.
This pill is also supposed to reduce urine odor, I can't really comment on that. Our Chi thankfully doesn't pee inside the house. His stool still smells awful though. I also can't comment on the claim to reduce occasional gas, since our Chi was never really gassy to begin with.
It does make our Chi's breath more pleasant, but that is most likely because he no longer eats his own stool. We also feed him one Greenies chew per day and that keeps his breath fresh (and teeth clean), so I am not sure if this pill is helping in any other way than stopping him from eating his own excrement.
So why didn't I rate this 5 stars? Some dogs simply won't eat this thing, and if you stop making your dog eat the pill - he will go right back to eating his poop. I hope that with time this will no longer be the case, but I am not sure since I am still on my first bottle.
My neighbor has a Pomeranian and a similar problem. His dog constantly eats crap. She will even eat other dog's feces. I told him about this pill and gave him a few to test out. His Pom would not eat it. He even put it in with some food and the dog ate everything but the pill.
I then gave it to another neighbor with a Havanese that also likes to eat his own poop, and he wouldn't eat the pill either, making it useless.
So while the pill worked for my dog, it did not work for two of my neighbors (they refused to eat it). That is pretty poor odds. Buy this at your own risk, because your dog is not guaranteed to like or eat it.
My guess is that if this pill was beef (or chicken) flavored and didn't smell as bad is it does, more dogs would eat it. As it is, the pill works but be prepared to trick your dog into eating it.

No longer using this product...found the source of the problem..changed dog foods. This is expensive when feeding more than 1 dog...had to find another solution.
Shi Tzu still eats poop Jan 31, 2010
By Gary R. Morrison My 8 month old Shi Tzu still eats her poop. I guess nothing works. I've tried everything. The product does, in fact, alter the dogs smell and the smell of the poop. As far as the oder goes, I got it right away and it is just what I ordered.
Good product Nov 13, 2008
By D. Leschke This product seems to do what it's intended to. Our dog will not eat the tablets, but they are easily crushed and added to her moist food.

Hard To Believe How These Worked Feb 04, 2011
By William R. Moore I was skeptical. How could little green pills rid my 80lb. yellow lab of his severe life-long "dog breath??" I had faith, and am very happy with the result. We did have to go to the "80lbs. and over" daily dosage to achieve full success. Our dog has shown no side effects of any type.
