A wonderful crate. Dec 03, 2007
By J. Gunther I am very pleased with this crate. It erected easily within moments, is extremely sturdy and big enough for all but, possibly, the giant breeds. My Rottweiler can lie down stretched out, if that is her preference, and can stand up without hunching over. She loves this crate far better than her plastic airline type crate as she has better visibility and I believe that she feels less confined. It is also much cooler in the heat of the summer than the plastic crate.
The only caveat that I would add is, if your pooch is an escape artist, you might want to put an additional clip or two on the door. The fasteners are fine for most dogs but I know my Border Collie would figure a way to open that door in no time flat. This is not a major criticism, by any means---I heartily recommend this crate. Also, the price is good when you consider the free shipping. I've seen this item listed for much less money but by the time you add the shipping (this crate is heavy!), you will pay the same or more. Also, it arrived in about a week so no complaints there.

Nice Crate Jun 13, 2008
By B. Erard This is a nice dog crate. It folds up easily to transport. It includes a divider, so that one can adjust the size of the crate as the puppy grows. The divider is a bit of a pain to install and adjust, but it works well. The crate also has a pull out tray at the bottom. The tray is easy to remove for cleaning. The crate also has some removable handles. They work well when the crate is set up and you want to move it across the room, but I haven't found a good way to attach the handles when the crate is folded up. Overall, I am happy with the purchase, and delivery was very fast.

JB Wholesale Pet Supplies Feb 08, 2008
By P. A. Hughes On December 5, I bought a 36/24/27, single door, dog crate to prepare for our lab puppy to be picked up on Christmas Eve. Do to unfortunate circumstances, our puppy came home on December 8th! The following day the Midwest Life Stages Crate arrived - I was so very happy to receive it so soon. I noticed the pan had been cracked in shipping and notified the seller, JB Wholesale Pet Supplies.
Not only did JB Wholesale Pet Supplies, send a replacement pan right out in the mail, but they actually called me on the phone and apologized for any inconvenience, talked with me about puppy training, and wished us well with our new puppy.
The crate training is working well, the Lab is safe and our socks get respite! The Life stages divider is really a good idea. I would certainly do business with J. B. Wholesale Pet Supplies again - what a great company!

WARNING: Crate Injured My Dog!! Jun 28, 2010
By M. Anderson I have a large icrate with a divider panel. I do love this crate, however the hooks and edges are very sharp. Today I took the divider panel out so I could collapse the crate to give to friend who is watching my puppy while I'm out of town. I leaned the panel against the bedroom door and my puppy came up to investigate. As she backed up, a hook went COMPLETELY THROUGH HER EYELID. After a couple seconds of her screaming in pain I managed to get her calm enough to carefully slide the hook back out and rush her to the vet. Fortunately the hook did not injure her eye but she has a bloody gash in her eyelid and it's very swollen. She's going to have to be on antibiotics for the next week. Vet visit cost $120, half of which was for the emergency status of the visit and the other half for the antibiotics. The hooks need to be rounded off or filed down.

Easy to Assemble, Easy to Clean Nov 13, 2009
By Bryan Carey

I have owned a few different dog crates over the years and most of them have been made from heavy- duty plastic construction with a closed design that included only a few open spaces from which a dog can see through to the outside. These types of crates certainly have their use, and they make a good choice when you need a crate for transporting. However, if you need a crate for general containment at the home, an open design is better because it allows the dog to see everything clearly, without the barriers. The Midwest Life Stages Single Door Folding Metal Dog Crate offers this open design, allowing a dog to see his/her family and the world around him/her while safely contained inside the crate.
Looking at the specifics of this dog crate, one can clearly see that it is made from metal construction with a plastic tray that slides through the bottom of the crate, to catch waste. There is a single door, located on one of the ends of the crate, with two locking latches to keep it shut. To lock, you simply lift the latch, slide it to the right, through the slot, and then lower it. The only way to undo the latch is to perform the same action in reverse. The latches seem a little flimsy, but a quick check will show that they are secure. It takes little effort to lift the latch and slide it, but I doubt many dogs would be able to figure this out and it isn't likely to happen by accident. Even if it did, it would have to happen twice for a dog to escape, since there are two latches securing the door.
The wire design of the Midwest Life Stages Single Door Folding Metal Dog Crate is safe and secure. It is strong enough to easily keep your dog within its grip, yet the wires are thin enough that they do not obstruct a dog's view. This dog crate also comes with a divider, making it ideal when you have multiple dogs or when you have a puppy that will eventually grow into a larger breed. Dividers are helpful with a small puppy because they make the dog's home space smaller, which means the puppy will be less likely to have an accident. Dogs generally do not like to soil their living space and then lie down in it. With a large space, a dog is more apt to make a mess because the dog knows it can avoid the mess and sleep in a dry area. With a smaller space, dogs will not have much free area and thus will try to stay clean until a family member lets them out.
The Midwest Life Stages Single Door Folding Metal Dog Crate folds for easy storage and there are two plastic handles that can be snapped into place to make transport even easier. Cleanup is easy too, thanks to the plastic tray that slides out from the bottom, even when the door is closed. It can be sprayed off or wiped clean without any disassembly of the unit.
Dog crates are important when you own a dog and the Midwest Life Stages Single Door Folding Metal Dog Crate ranks as one of the better ones I have owned. I like the ease of assembly, the simple folding and unfolding design, and the ease of cleaning the slide out tray. This crate isn't super- strong and some parts at least give the perception of weakness. But this is a solid, sturdy crate from Midwest Designs and it's a device I recommend for simple dog containment.
