Excellent choice Aug 17, 2008
By JudithM46 I purchased my Ferret Nation 143 and it was an excellent buy, my husband and I attached the add on to our 141 in under 10 minutes, all the parts were there and the directions were easy to follow. The add on 143, like the 141 is extreemly easy to maintain. I see cages made of much lighter materials selling for equal to greater $$. The 143 makes the total cage very roomy, making it a great addition for multi-ferret households. Excellent value and quality.

Best design for ferrets and their humans Apr 13, 2011
By Schnauzer Lover The FN-143 arrived today and my ferrets couldn't be happier. They really do appreciate the extra room for climbing and playing, plus so many different sleeping choices! Another fine product from Midwest Cages.
Assembly was even easier than the 141, probably because I already had an idea of how the pieces went; didn't even look at the supplied directions. Needed hubbies help for about 5 minutes, I did the rest myself.
Oddly, when I ordered the cage the webpage said that it would be fullfilled by Amazon. 2 days later it had this new supplier listed; HorseLover2. That may be why it took 2 full weeks to receive my order. That was a disappointment, though the cage is wonderful.

BUYER BEWARE: This is NOT the 143, it is the 183 - which is NOT a compatible add on to the 142 & reviews of 180 series are poor. Jan 10, 2012

I tried to purchase the 143 but as I couldn't get it, I purchased the 183, having misunderstood that it was compatible with my 142 (or a 141). They are NOT compatible. Since I really wanted my ferrets to have the extra level, I seriously considered getting the 182 to go with the 183 that I had. After having looked at the 183, I found that while the Midwest 180 series is easier to put together, it is made of cheaper materials and NOT stable and safe. I found reviews of people reporting that their cages were not stable and that the sides came off their 182s making it downright dangerous for their ferrets (or other pets they had in it). I feel badly to negatively affect a seller/vendor for midwest's poor design (and they are not making the 140s available anymore so you don't have a choice nor do vendors), but I got here searching for a 143 and the reviews posted here are for the 143 and that is not what it being sold! Midwest has made a cheaper more problematic product with it's 180 series. And now people in the know about this problem are clamoring for anyone with old or used 141, 142, or 143. Used ones are going for more then what new ones were going for a year ago, at the moment. What I ended up doing was getting a 142 from a reseller and using a single level and I'll be posting the new 141 I have left for sale locally. In the meantime I just wanted to give a heads up (for those that don't know) that the new series has some problems that you'll need to address (and should look into yourself) to have a safe cage and that this product is meant as an add on to the 182. Google reviews of the 181, 182, or 183 series in order to find out what people are saying about this product and form your own thoughts based on problems mentioned. I'm surely hoping that Midwest will address this asap as they used to make a cage that was the gold standard and with the early reviews I'm reading (not to mention that they wont support people who purchased a new cage only a year ago from them by continuing to make add ons for the old cages) it sounds as if the cheaper cages and the lack of support to loyal customers may compromise their reputation for making great cages.
Added A Thrid Story To My Ferret Nation May 09, 2012
By Chex I bought this to add another story to the already two story Ferret Nation. The cage houses my two chinchillas and it is almost perfect for them. They have plenty of space (even more so now), they cannot get out, and you can change it up from time to time by moving the ledges. Now that they can go much higher, they can fling their poo further across the room!
Installing the third story required some assistance, and also required someone watching my chinchillas outside the cage as they played while I worked for them.
My chinchillas have chewed some of the plastic flooring. I try to discourage them as much as possible from doing this. Fortunately they've either stopped or do it so rarely I don't notice.
I got the idea of buying another story from the picture on the box. "Oh hey, I can add another story later." And I did, however... the wheels are definitely NOT meant to support three of the cages stacked together. The wheel has broken and I needed to lift this thing to move it until I bought new wheels. If you own one of these cages, you know how study and heavy they are, now imagine lifting three of them stacked together. The additional story should come with wheels to better support the weight, but oh well. I'm not going to deduct a star for the wheel incident since this can be added to a single story cage as well in which case the wheel wouldn't be an issue.
The two panel cage doors make the cage a breeze to clean. I can easily take out the plastic flooring, easily reach in and take out the litter box, etc. Even the very top isn't too bad to clean, just pop out the flooring and throw away all the poo. Keep in mind that I am 5'10, so I don't have a lot of trouble reaching up there. All three of them stacked together is in the six feet range.
Also, I bought the famous chinchilla saucer and installing it in this cage wasn't too bad. I definitely needed some help. The cage is definitely big enough for the saucer.
A spacious, study, and easy to clean cage. If I could I'd buy a fourth story, but my ceiling isn't that high... and cleaning that would be a bit tough.
Love this Cage Sep 27, 2011
By Cyndy Love the addition to my Ferret Nation Cage. Needed extra room when we went from 2 ferrets to 4. This is great - with 3 stories the ferrets have room to run around and spread out. I would not have any other cage - durable and quality made.
