1This collar almost killed my cat  Sep 24, 2006
By S. Brown
Beware! This collar does not break away, and is not safe. This morning my kitty became entangled in part of my son's toy tent. The collar did not loosen or breakaway, and the cat was unable to breathe until my husband cut the collar and freed her. Very scary. Had we not been home she would not have made it. I recommend you find a true breakaway collar to purchase - not this one.

1DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!  Oct 29, 2007
By Gerri Pett "danceangel"
I ordered 2 of these collars recently. one is almost 2" smaller than the other although they are "one size" fits all. THEY DO NOT BREAK AWAY when snagged. I like the thinness, but it could kill your cat!

4Loosened easily, but still a good collar.  May 24, 2006
By Sam and Gus
I have two large male cats. I've had problems with the collars with the safely clasps because the cats figured out how to snap them off, and no matter how tight or loose they were would take them off at least once a day. The one cat even figured out how to get out of the kind of collar that has a buckle. On my cats these collars don't stay tight, either because the cats loosen them or the collars do it own their own, but the cats don't seem to mind wearing them anyway because they are so light an unobtrusive. Since they are large cats, it still fits them fine even at it's loosest setting- not tight but not falling off, and doesn't irritate them (they never scratch at it) or cause knots in their (medium-length) hair. I would recommend the collars for other large cats, though I can't speak to how well the collar would work for a smaller cat.

1Do Not Buy This!  Oct 17, 2007

This product is dangerous for your animal! It is not a safety collar! Luckily I was home when my cat got caught and I was able to cut it off.

3Adjustable Cat "Safety" Collar - Breakaway: Re-designed My Foot! (+ my review, story, and fix)  Nov 05, 2008
By M. Raymer "Crazy Cat Lady"

My review:
This collar has worked like a charm, now that I've MacGyver'd it into being safe and effective. I have even ordered another one to replace the one I accidentally ruined while trying to fix it.

My story:
This collar is supposed to have been redesigned, and that's what scares me. I read the reviews about this thing being dangerous, but I really liked the design and thought that maybe it was just the "old" models that wouldn't breakaway. I bought two, one for my huge 15 pound Maine Coon mix, and one for my new 5 month old kitten. When they arrived I immediately yanked one see if they really were dangerous. I'm sad to say that it took me two tries (I didn't pull hard enough the first time) but I eventually pulled it apart. Now, I'm no small, delicate, flower of a woman (being around 6 feet tall), but I decided to give one to my boyfriend to try. He yanked and yanked, and finally got the collar to open. I thought maybe the one we had tried was defective, so I pulled out the other, but it was exactly the same. I seriously doubt that my large cat could pull free, and I am absolutely positive that there is no way my kitten could.

My fix:
Normal collars wear away the fur around my large cat's throat, so I decided to try to salvage these small, lightweight collars. I pulled out a nail file and filed around the "plug" part of the clip, but was apparently a little too zealous about it as it no longer snaps together. On the second one I just filed down one side, testing periodically to see when I thought it would be safe for my cats to wear. I then pulled out some pliers and pinched the sliding metal loops once the collar was sized to my largest cat's neck so it won't slide and be too big. On the bright side I now have one great collar for my large cat, one more collar on the way (yes, I ordered another one), and a new toy for my kitten to play with (she loves to play fetch, and this new "toy" is her favorite).
