ACTUAL MEASUREMENTS for size medium differ from product description Jun 19, 2010
By SMB I bought this product through Amazon from PPE Pet Supplies simply because it was the cheapest price. Amazon was selling the same product in a smaller size and/or color for almost ten dollars more. I paid $21.78 for a black size medium--including shipping. Amazon is now selling this size and color--but the product description is STILL INACCURATE.
First, you should note that the product description stays almost the same no matter what size you choose--and ALL SIZES make the claim that the product will hold up to 20 pounds. (as of this writing, anyways.) I read many reviews before deciding my best bet was to save myself both heartache and ten bucks by ordering a size medium--when more than likely I only needed a size small.
My dog is a Chihuahua and weighs in at eight pounds. I'm sure the small would have worked as she has plenty of room in the size medium, and really, the product is a little too "TALL" for her when she sits with all fours on the bottom of the product. But it works fine and was worth this non-perfection in order to save ten bucks.
So here are the ACTUAL MEASUREMENTS of this product: SIZE MEDIUM, BLACK--bottom that your dog will sit and/or lay in measures 9X11. That means it measures ELEVEN INCHES LONG (the length of your pet???) by NINE inches wide (how wide is your pet?) And it is 9.5 inches HIGH. (how tall is your pet when SITTING?????) My little girl's chin does NOT reach 9.5 inches when she is sitting, so I sort of pull down gently on the canvas and help her peek over it. More often than not she rides with her front paws hanging over the edge and cushions herself.
One last thought--the bottom of this product bends/bows with the weight of the dog. I personally couldn't imagine it carrying a 20 pound dog. If you're dog weighs more than 15 pounds--even if she/he would fit, I don't think you'd be happy toting your dog very far in this.

Does run small, but works well Jul 11, 2008
By Emily R. Mccalib First, as a side note, the carrier I received was all black, not black and blue as pictured. My 12-pound Norwich Terrier just fit (she's pretty sturdily built) and I don't think a dog any larger than that would fit comfortably. The carrier is fairly easy to adjust, although I did tend to keep a hand under the bottom because Gabby filled it entirely and the center of gravity is different than a baby, who usually either faces you or has their back flush with your chest. A dog tends to be looking outward, which pulls you forward a bit. The collar clip was sufficiently long to attach to Gabby's harness and seemed secure.

Will not hold a 20 pound dog Dec 18, 2005

This is a great bag, and my Chihuahua puppy loves it...however, if you have an animal larger than 7-10 pounds, you would need one size bigger. the compartment size is about the size of a six pack of coke, so bear that in mind. I know for a fact that my 19 pound pug would not fit half of him in there. Otherwise, the bag is great construction, and a cute idea.

Pet-A-Roo Pet Carrier Sep 06, 2005
By T. Gruver This Pet Carrier will not hold any pet up to 20 lbs as stated in the product description. I have a small puppy that is 5 lbs and it is still too small for her. She barely fits in. I would say it is more for a pet weighing up to 3 lbs and no more then that.

Hands-Free Pet Carrier Feb 24, 2011

"life lessons"
I was looking for a carrier I could use to hold my dog while riding my bike. After reading all of the reviews, I decided to purchase the size Medium pet carrier, even though I have a 6 1/2 pound chihuahua. I am very glad I did because there is no way I would have felt comfortable with him fitting in a size Small. When sitting in the carrier, his head and most of his neck stick out of the top. I like that it has a draw string because I think it gives him a feeling of being supported; I also like the attached clip that I can hook onto his collar.
The first time he was put in it, he was a bit apprehensive and wouldn't sit down, so of course he was sticking out of it too far for my comfort. I just walked him around outside and he started relaxing. The second time we used it, he was eager to get in it and sat down right away. Within a couple of minutes he was curled up in it. It's a bit of a tight sqeeze to do much more than sit or curl up, but he seemed to be content. I did like the hands-free aspect of this carrier and I can see me using it when we go shopping or walking around town. The mesh pockets will also be useful to hold his leash and snacks.
I felt that the carrier was pretty secure once I tightened the straps across my back and snapped the belt. We had a different version of this carrier previously and even though it was very small, I used it when bike riding. This one should be much better - and much safer. Heed everyone's warning about how small this runs and get one size bigger than you think you need. Overall, this is just what I was looking for, so my dog and I are happy with my purchase.
