No Match for Heavy Duty Jaws Apr 14, 2011
By RBailey I have purchased two large orange Aqua Kong on a rope for use in the pool and, as much as I wanted to love the toy, it just did not stand up to my 95-pound (muscle, not fat) male German Shepherd. I raise and train German Shepherds in obedience and Schutzhund sport, so I see a lot of big dogs and talk frequently with their owners/trainers. There is another male Shepherd in our club who has played retrieve games with his Aqua Kong for a year, and that toy is still in great condition.
My dog, on the other hand bites through the plastic "rope" in minutes. The rest of the toy lasted a month or so (with supervised play,) but the "float" inside the toy did not work well at all. I finally replaced it with a piece of foam cut from a pool "noodle." The next pool season, I bought a new Aqua Kong (I really wanted to love this toy!) -- this one didn't last even one day. I was taking photos of my dog running around the pool with the brand new toy, and he just bit off the top section -- no chewing or tugging, just the pressure of his bite.
While I continue to think that Kong toys are, in general, among the very best on the market, I would not recommend this particular toy if you have a big dog with a strong, powerful bite. Buy the black Extreme Kong instead and hope that Kong will add an "extreme" water Kong to the line!

A Tired Dog is a Happy Dog... Feb 06, 2010
By Daniel D. Jacobson
"Raconteur"
This one does the job on Lake Tahoe and replaces a half million slimy tennis balls. The red color is easier to spot than the mottled blue color. However, I did give one to a friend in Hayward WI, and the mottled blue color is better to contrast with the iron-brown tinge to the lake water there. Pay a few dollars extra to get this floating model for your dock dog.

Great for our Non-fetching Boxer Aug 02, 2009
By Robb We have a purebred Boxer, lets call her Callie. Callie HATES to play fetch, has no interest in it at all... until she met the Aqua Kong. Now we never use it in the water because she doesn't like the water, however she loves it in the back yard and will play for hours with it retrieving it every time! We love this toy and would recommend it to anyone. Be careful and pick the appropriate size. The Large one is just about too big for Callie and she is a 50 LB. boxer.

Fun...until it sank Jul 31, 2011
By Diana This toy is a typical Kong with a nylon rope and filled with foam. It did not sit very high in the water, which isn't usually a problem, as my dog watches for the splash, but on several occasions we had to point it out to him and once Hubby had to swim out into the lake to retrieve it himself, because the dog couldn't see it. That was the first day we played with it. The second day we played with it for about 30 minutes, and then all of a sudden it was gone. It had not been chewed or damaged, but somehow it failed in the floating department, and is now sitting at the bottom of a lake. Unfortunately the water there was murky enough that we could not even begin to look for this toy. Overall I was pretty disappointed. My dogs are not allowed to chew or gnaw on their toys, so the previous reviews about this toy not standing up to strong chewers was not a problem for me. Obviously if your dog chews up everything you give it, it will probably continue to do so, regardless of the toy. Anyway, I put this toy away when we weren't playing with it in the lake, so I know for a fact it wasn't chewed, and since I was throwing it continuously when it vanished, I'm sure nothing happened in the meantime. It was fine on my previous toss, and the next minute, it was gone. So now I'm on the lookout for a better water toy for my water-loving dogs!
***8/10/11 Update: I wrote the Kong Company and told them what happened with my Aqua Kong. They apologized and promptly sent me a new one. Their response was that, while it is very rare, it has happened before. We'll see how the 2nd one holds up!
