The Sand Perch from Insight by JW is designed specifically to help keep mess inside the cage. This perch is wider at the base and then gradually gets more slender as it extends into the cage. This keeps the bird perched on the middle to end rather than right near the side of the cage. The natural sand is part of the mold, not sprayed on and so is durable and comfortable for your bird. Suitable for parakeets and cockatiels and other similar sized birds.

My parakeet had super long nails so I got him a pedi-perch that's basically just a rough perch but that didn't work at all, so I finally got this and within a week his nails were trimmed. It hasn't been hurting his feet either because he's not on it all the time since he has other perches. Not the best quality in the world, but for the price it's not bad at all.

I have purchased a number of these sand perches because I have always used these. Unfortunately I have discovered that these are just plastic perches with some king of grit glued on - certainly not the original product. Do not buy these as they are not good for your birds - no better than those cardboard gritty things. I dis use some wet sandpaper to bring down the sharpness a bit because I did not want to damage the underside of the bird's feet.
