The listed pet size seems unrealistic Dec 27, 2009
By AmyE Although the specifications say the Ithaka 5 is good for dogs up to 89 pounds(which is consistent with the manufacturer's website) I concur with the other reviewers that this is only suitable for a small to medium sized dog. I'm using this crate for short car trips (under 30 minutes) and for keeping my dog crated during agility class. He's a 50 pound border collie and, while suitable for these short durations, would not even come close to being big enough for keeping him crated for longer than 15 - 30 minutes. There is just enough room for him to stand, sit, lie down, and turn around, but it is definitely a snug fit. Hope this helps you with picking the right size for your dog.

Smaller than you think! Feb 19, 2008

"Weim Whisperer"
Small dogs only! Our weim puppy will definitely outgrow this by the time he is 4 months old. It is big enough for smaller dogs/short legged dogs though and is long to allow maneuvering. It doesn't have a decent set of directions although the pictures will be more than enough to get you through. The locking handle is nice if you plan to use it to travel, and it does meet the standards for airline travel. There is no handle and it is bulky so moving it around the house is quite troublesome, especially with stairs and sharp turns. It is light weight though, a positive and negative quality; easy for you to move and easy for the dog to move too! You must put something in the crate, like a pee pee pad, if you are using it with a pup as the bottom has a groove around the edges and it will create a moat of pee! That is an entirely different issue but one to think about when crate shopping. It does seem to be very sturdy as our other full grown dogs have batted it around (with the pup inside) and no harm was done. It can be easily disassembled for cleaning and storage and was a great value considering the size!

Works out well for training boxer puppies..as a breeder I need something that holds up to abuse..quick and easy to clean is also a bonus
great Dec 13, 2008
By Carrie I have had metal crates but find the plastic ones easier to clean and move around. My dog is about 25lbs (similar build of a boston terrier) and this fits her nicely. I went to the pet store first to figure out the right size but it was cheaper to purchase online. Shipping was fast so overall pleased.
