2Not sharp enough  Sep 20, 2007
By Nick Mancuso "Nick"
This product is a great design, cheaply implemented. The blades slip under the mats fine and the tips are rounded so not to poke the dog. However the blades aren't sharp enough to cut. You can get some with a sawing motion - assuming your dog will sit tight as you pull some hairs out.

4Great for long haired cats.  Jun 01, 2011

I think this comb is great. I have a Norwegian Forest and a Turkish Angora and this has been a lifesaver when getting mats/knots out. It is a little on the large side for my hands, but it's not inconvenient. Overall, good pet grooming tool.

54Paws Ultimate Touch Professional Mat Remover Comb  Dec 17, 2009

Works great for removing matted hair. It has removable blades and can be reversed for left or right handed users.

3Not Really for Left Handed People...  Sep 25, 2011
By Finn's Mom
I bought this because of the blades and ability to switch to a left handed tool. Not so much. My roommate, neighbor, and I could not get the bolt off the top to change it, no matter how hard we tried (and my neighbor is a fairly strong man -- hence the next comment). When I told him he was free to go all out trying to remove it, the welding at the bottom of the tool actually snapped. Without so much as budging the actual bolt. I returned it and tried again -- SAME THING! Its pretty sad when the bolt is on tighter than the actual welding.

As far as how it cuts, it works ok with a lot of sawing action (FYI I own an old english sheepdog). But the dog seems to get antsy when I have to pull on him to saw thru it -- even when I hold underneath to alleviate some of the discomfort. I just find it hard to believe theres not a better tool out there. Searching reviews here now to find it ;)

Edit: I was able to get the bolt off on the third exchange. Even though I was able to turn the blades around, the metal piece where you put your thumb for stability (and to avoid touching the blades) does NOT turn around -- its stuck under a different mechanism (don't remove the mechanism to try to turn it either -- I did this and was not able to get it back on, its not made to be removed...the blades also need an EXACT tension to stay tight, and once I did this they were loose, even with addition of some washers). All in all, a pretty poorly made tool....we don't even use it anymore.

5Four Paws Mat-Removing Comp  Feb 26, 2011

Very nice having the longer teeth. Doesn't bother my dog's hair so much when I try to un-mat it.
