Happy cat! Apr 20, 2006
By Quack Kitty forgot all about the couch with this thing. He loves the catnip that it comes with and you can refill it with catnip as well. They need to be replaced monthly, as the real scritch wears out. I recommend the double wide because kitty also uses it to just sit on.

Kitty loves it! May 31, 2008
By M4 Wasn't sure my cat would have anything to do this as she normally loves sisal scratchers, but the second I put it on the floor she was on it and scratching (even without the catnip added yet). Once I added some catnip to it, she was in kitty heaven. I even enter the room to find her sleeping on it. Highly recommended.

A cosmic experience for my kitties! Aug 29, 2008

I put the Fat Cat Kitty Hoots Big Mama's Scratchy Box Double Wide at the foot of our bed (my two cats and I share a bed) just a few feet from my roll-top desk. I keep the Cosmic Catnip behind the roll-top. All they need to hear is two inches of that roll-top going up and they are there--that's how much they love their catnip. They are addicted!!!
Do you know that cats have phantom claws after they are de-clawed? (And no, I would never de-claw a cat; however, the one I have had three months longer was de-clawed when she adopted me. When I adopted the second one, I had to have her de-clawed to keep things on an level playing field.) All this is to say that, de-clawed or not, my two cats still "sharpen" their claws. Meaning: they love the scratchy box--especially with catnip all over it.
Another success story for amazon. Now if only they would....

Buy 2 for the highly specific scratcher Mar 14, 2011

Not all cats like the same scratching medium (sisal, carpet, emery, cardboard), but they do all seem to like upholstered furniture.
We have 4 cats, and each prefers one medium over the other, but after several years of trial and error I can scientifically conclude that 3 out of 4 cats will use this cardboard scratcher!
I particularly like this one because:
- 1) It's extra wide. (And our cat who uses this the most is also a bit beamy.) - 2) It's available via mailorder. (Our local pet supply stores do not usually carry this extra wide size.)
Just consider these things if your cat does take to this cardboard scratcher:
- 1) Buy more than one at a time. The cardboard does not really hold up too long, and even though this has 2 sides, my cat can scratch right through to the bottom. Each side will wear pretty quickly. - 2) They generate carboard bunnies like crazy, so be prepared to sweep up more than usual.

FABULOUS product! Sep 09, 2008
By Georgeanne This is one of my all-time favorite products! When we adopted our cat Simon, I wasn't sure if he would use any type scratching post or pad. I noticed one of these scratchy boxes in his shelter cage, so I bought one for him to try. He loved it! He walked over to it immediately and began scratching. I, of course, am thrilled that he likes it instead of our sofa arms.
I love how the little bag of catnip is included. Simon goes NUTS when I sprinkle fresh catnip down into the cardboard.
It is a quality box (very sturdy), and I also love how the cardboard center can be flipped over to provide more life for the box. All in all, a GREAT product.
