Received this in 2 days, typical Amazon/UPS for here. The birds have been loving the open water all winter. It gets ice on the edges at -10, but it never has frozen completely. It's been a nice addition and it's great to be able to watch all of our feathered friends sharing a communal bath on a cold winter day.

This video shows a typical early morning (this morning Dec 3 2011) in our area in CT - where the outside temperature is in the teens, but our bird bath appears to be from 70 to 95 degrees! I am using a hand held infrared thermometer with digital readout to show the temperature both of the surrounding deck and area, as well as various locations in the bath. Look closely and you can see steam coming off this thing!
This was our second unit - Amazon replaced the first when it arrived with defective packaging and parts missing. I haven't attempted to return for warranty replacement yet, but I will be forced to deal with the manufacturer, as it is more than 30 days since my purchase at Amazon. (It took me a while to set it up, and we didn't notice at first how rapid the rapid water depletion was, and it got worse as the weather got colder.) I will update or delete this review as necessary if the manufacturer has a good explanation, and handles the replacement honorably!
Update March 30 2012: Farm Innovators replaced this promptly, but without any letter or other comment. The replacement unit does not boil water like before, but it does still seem overly warm, and we do need to check the water level frequently, and top it up. One annoying th8ing is that the bottom is not flat, but has a significant bulge upwards, so if the water level has gone down by even only a little bit, it won't cover the center portion of the bottom, even though there is a at least a good inch of depth towards the edges. This means you have to be even more vigilant in topping it up, as you aren't supposed to leave any part of the base uncovered by water.
The net of my experience: I would buy a different product. Upgraded to 3 stars, though, as the manufacturer did replace the defective product.

A proper elec. cord pigtail) should be furnished with this unit, or at least as a purchase option. It takes a special cord you know. I'll have to build me one i guess. I'm not too unhappy as Amazon got it to me quick and well protected. Thanks Amazon, on the ball as usual. I would give it five stars if not for the hookup problem.

What pleasure this heated birdbath gave both us oldies and the birds. Clamped to our patio railing, we can watch the activity thru the patio doors, a great way to spend the winter...

I have had this birdbath for a couple of years. It is my busiest by far. I have over the years bought many bird
gadgets, feeders and baths and this one stands out! I have bluebirds that stay year around now that I have this bath..all my birds love this bath (Chipmunks and squirrels too). I use a standard outdoor extension cord when cold weather comes for the heater. So easy to unscrew and tip out the old water to refill. In the summer I sometimes put a mister/dripper on the side of this bath. As a avid birder I highly recommend this birdbath..and it has a 3 year warranty!
