Great dog shampoo for itchy skin and coat May 11, 2011
By Nightingale "DermaPet" MalAcetic Shampoo for Dogs and Cats (ONE GALLON)
I have used this product before and I am a satisfied user. I was pleased to find MalAcetic Shampoo for Dogs and Cats on sale through Amazon.com. I had been unable to find it through my vet or local pet stores and had given up on finding this quality dog shampoo.
We have a Shar Pei mix dog who suffers with the skin issues that many Shar Pei's do: A greasy coating on the skin and a pungent doggy odor that gets into bedding and while not "vile" is decidedly unpleasant. It also causes the dog to itch and makes him prone to skin injuries from scratching or licking his itchy skin. This shampoo cuts through the grease, without stripping the coat or drying it out. His fur is soft and smooth not stiff and bristly after shampooing with DermAcetic.
I'm told that, if you have a pure-bred SharPei, this fur type is desirable for show dogs and you wouldn't want to soften his bristle coat so be forewarned. I imagine this might be true for other bristle-coat type dogs as well. But we just want a non-itchy, non-stinky, comfortable and happy pet. The shampoo is not highly perfumed (neither the dog nor I much care for the perfume) and has the pleasant smell of apple cider -- I assume from one of the ingredients in it. It cleans him better and leaves him symptom free much longer than the prescription dog shampoo he otherwise requires.
I purchased the gallon sized container because he is a medium sized dog and goes through a lot of shampoo. At upwards of $20 for 8 ounces it can get expensive. We paid about $56 for one gallon which is equivalent to 16 of the smaller 8 oz. bottles (1 gallon = 128 ounces.) In case you don't want to do the math, we would pay upwards of $375 for the same amount and we know we will use it.
I highly recommend this non-prescription shampoo for anyone whose dog has problems with itchy or greasy skin. And if you're looking for a good price, consider the gallon sized bottle.

Great Shampoo Jul 17, 2010
By Diane Surman I bought this shampoo for 2 Bassets with skin problems. The product works very well in regards to dealing with their skin issues. To date, it's the best shampoo I have purchased. I would highly recommend it.
Good shampoo for your pet with sensitive skin Jul 11, 2011
By Just My Opinion Our dog has alergies/sensitive skin. We have been using this shampoo for nearly a year now, and it works great. Helps skin condition. I'd even recommend the "ultra malacetic" shampoo if your pet has dry/flakey skin, but it is very difficult to find.
