Contech SQRSTP-002 Squirrel Stop Squirrel Deterrent For Hanging Feeders

The SquirrelStop automatic spinning squirrel deterrent protects your hanging bird feeder from squirrels safely and efficiently. When a squirrel climbs onto the birdfeeder, the increased weight activates the SquirrelStop motor, which spins the feeder and causes the squirrel to jump off. Since birds weigh much less than squirrels, they don't activate the SquirrelStop. Setting up the SquirrelStop is easy. Simply hang the device where both the SquirrelStop and your feeder will be at least 40 cm (16 inches) from the nearest object. Fill the feeder with seed (ensuring the total weight of the feeder is less than 10lbs (4.5 kgs), hang the feeder from the SquirrelStop, and turn the device on. That's all there is to it. When it's time to refill your feeder, switch off the SquirrelStop, remove the feeder, and fill it with seed. Then hang the full feeder from the SquirrelStop, and turn the SquirrelStop back on. The SquirrelStop automatic spinning squirrel deterrent is constructed of durable, high quality UV-resistant materials, and has been designed to provide many years of reliable service.

  • Prevents squirrels from wasting birdseed

  • Works with any hanging feeder weighing up to 10 lbs

  • Requires no assembly and is easy to use

  • Safe and harmless to squirrels and birds

  • Operates on three D-cell batteries

5Working beautifully!  May 30, 2008
By R. Everett "busybecca"
This gadget gave me just the results I was looking for. After one day of use the squirrels stopped climbing on my bird feeder and are confined to the ground where they pick up the dropped seeds. What a cool invention!

2Hyper-sensitive  Feb 04, 2012
By jennisue
While this machine does what it says it does, it is very sensitive. It works with your feeder, and when you hang the feeder from it, turning it on will cause it to go through a calibration cycle to set the hanging weight. Supposedly, it will spin for 15 seconds when the weight goes up by about a pound, assuming there is a squirrel causing the weight increase. Oftentimes it will just spin on its own with nothing to trigger it. After the 15 seconds, it stops, then starts again, and continuing this cycle for no apparent reason. . When that happens, turning it off and back on will re-calibrate it for its current hanging weight, and it will work OK for a while. But before long, off it goes again. Seems to be OK until a squirrel gets on it again, and then the sensitivity makes it go berserk once more. I would NOT recommend this to anyone. I'm trying a Brome 1024 next.

5awesome so far!  Jul 29, 2010

I have a dwindling crowd of nauseated squirrels. It turns just fast enough for them to hang on until they are dizzy! Not sure what happened for the reviewer who says the squirrels stopped it, but I suggest to be sure to use fresh batteries. Also, make sure that there is a big gap between walls, rails etc. and the feeder. They can't stop it unless they have something else for a foothold. I especially like the automatic weight calibration.
