1Both of my dogs had severe reactions to Bio Spot!  Jun 03, 2010
By D. Fowler "Dragonfly77"
I picked up this product for my two dogs thinking perhaps I'd save a few dollars as the price was right and it was on the shelf with another well known brand. I may have saved a few dollars and gotten rid of some fleas, but also got a good scare. Both dogs very quickly became lethargic and quite ill, so ill it was actually scary to watch them. I later learned more about the product and found there were more serious reactions to this product.

There are warnings all over the back of the packages, including an emergency number provided by the company, Farnam. This is what is says about adverse reactions on the back of my package:

"Adverse Reaction: Some animals may be sensitive to ingredients in this product. Reaction in dogs may include skin sensitivity. Dogs may show lethargy, increased pruitus (itchiness), erythema (redness), rash and hair discoloration or hair loss at the application site. Observe the dog following treatment. Sensitivity may occur after using any pesticide product on pets. If signs of sensitivity occur, bathe your dog with a mild, non-insecticidal shampoo and rinse with large amounts of water. If signs continue, consult a veterinarian immediately."

If you do decide to use this product, carefully watch your animals for any adverse reactions. AND be prepared to call your vet. Not recommended!

4Great price, great product!  Jun 02, 2011
By bullybabies
We have several dogs of all different sizes and ages, some house dogs and others strictly outdoors. I had been purchasing Frontline but was spending way more than I wanted to each month on flea control. We had to find something different that worked but that wasn't going to make us go broke either. We purchased Bio-Spot and used it on all of our dogs. It works great on ticks - haven't seen one since we've started using it! It works pretty good on fleas but we still see one on one of the dogs once in a while, not often though.

Bio-Spot has an EXCELLENT price and works great for us - I would highly recommend this!!!

Just an extra note:
All topical flea preventatives can have reactions, someone we know lost their dog to a Frontline reaction. If you are using ANY kind of flea preventative (it is a pesticide) on your pet you need to be prepared to call your vet in case that happens. We, personally, have never had any type of reaction to any type of medicines but since we are responsible pet owners we do know that they can happen.

1not worth the risk  Jul 06, 2011
By savvy shopper
I'm always amazed that this product is still legal and that people purchase it. I've worked at numerous vet hospitals and dog after dog visit emergency rooms due to reactions to this product. If you're thinking, "any topical product has risk of adverse reactions", consider that I never once saw a dog at the ER due to Frontline or Advantage. Yes, these brands are pricey, but for an obvious reason. A trip to an emergency hospital will cost you a lifetime's supply of Frontline or Advantage. And money aside, my dog's health and comfort are not worth that risk.

5Long time user of Bio Spot  Sep 17, 2010
By Linda "Linda"
I have used Bio Spot for more than 15 years now. I've used it on all my dogs over the years. I have 3 dogs now. And I've used it on all of the rescue dogs that I've fostered. I did rescue work for 5 years.
That's a lot of dogs!

I've never had a side effect problem, although I do know that they happen. Side effects to all of the topicals affect some, but not others. Dogs are individuals!

I have never seen a flea or a tick on any of the dogs that I've used Bio Spot on. All of the above dogs are or were inside dogs. So I'd know real fast if Bio Spot didn't work, wouldn't I?

1Severe adverse reaction  Apr 03, 2012
By Myrtle
I tried this product as a cheaper alternative to Frontline, but my 4 yr old, 35 lb mutt had a severe adverse reaction. I put the product on her before bedtime, and the next morning she was twitching, stumbling, and having trouble keeping her balance. A rushed trip to the vet, a deep clean shampoo, and a day of rest and she's fine, but I would never recommend this product.
