Super Duper Pooper Scooper Jan 31, 2010
By WASK I purchased this litter box to use exclusively as a sifter for cleaning out my other litter boxes. I have 4-5 cats using 3-4 litter boxes at my house. Some are very picky so I have much larger boxes than this one. I have a busy schedule and don't always get around to scooping the boxes EVERY day, so the clumped wastes really pile up by day two. It takes forever it seems to find every single clump in each box (most are at least 18" x 24" with 3" of litter) using a traditional scoop. Found this box on Amazon and thought it might be worth the $ as a giant scooper, so I got it. It works GREAT! I dump the entire contents of a used litter box into this one (with sifter laying flat), sift it with the removable sifter, dump the clumps into the trash, set the sifter on top the empty litter box, pour the litter back thru the sifter (for a 2nd chance at any missed smaller clumps- which there are rarely any), and I'm done! My "giant scoop" stays clean (no solids stick to it since it is never directly peed or pooped on) and it takes less than 1 minute for each box! I LOVE it! Totally worth the $ for me!
Good idea but poor execution Mar 09, 2011
By atmhc The idea behind this product makes perfect sense. There's no reason we should be wasting our time picking through the litter box to remove the cat's leavings. Sifting the entire contents through some kind of screen like device to remove it all in one shot is obviously the way to go.
Unfortunately this product was designed to be produced at the absolute minimum cost, and it shows. I'd be surprised if the 2 pieces of moulded plastic cost the manufacturer more than 30 to 40 cents when purchased in quantity. If it had been made with better materials than the thin plastic molded material it's made of, it could easily work a lot better.
It's also far too small. I have three cats & use 2 of these units side by side, & they still aren't big enough to keep the litter from getting all over the floor where they're located.
What a shame.
Not useful for clumping litter Oct 06, 2010
By cobalt Well, it was a good idea, poorly executed.
Why is it that building a better litter box is as futile as trying to build a better mousetrap?
The inner "scoop" is not really fitted to the bottom of the pan, so there's a gap between the mesh and the bottom of the main pan. This gap means that when your cats pee and the litter clumps, it clumps AROUND the mesh, and you end up having to scrape both sides of it to get them off, breaking up the clumps and making an incredible mess.
We ended up using the litter box part as a litter box, and the liner "scoop" went in the trash.
