What a difference from buckets! Sep 22, 2010
By E. Koski I recently moved my two goldfish from a 10-gallon tank into a 55-gallon tank, so the water changes have more volume and are more time consuming. Their tank is located in a bedroom that I use as a home office. The nearest sink is in the kitchen and isn't designed to accept a screw-on fitting.
I got the 50-foot-long hose because the only place I could think of that I could hook up the valve was at the laundry sink in the basement. The question was how to get the hose from the main floor to the basement. My husband thought of using the laundry chute. It worked like a dream. I was able to hook it up and syphon and add water without a second person. This marks the end of using a 5-gallon bucket to change the water. When I was done, my husband helped by picking up the hose and feeding it down the chute to me so that the hose could be drained into the sink.
I believe I will change their water more often because this makes it so much easier. Attaching the tubing to the valves takes a bit of effort, but there were no leaks.

Fantastic tool for your tank Jun 27, 2011
By M. Zveris How much do I love using this to clean my 90 gallon AGA saltwater system? Allow me to count the ways!
1) I don't have to self start my siphon and suck saltwater (and I don't contemplate what else...snail poop maybe) into my mouth and gag so that I can clean my tank because this pump hooks right up to my sink and starts for me.
2) No more carrying buckets of filthy saltwater into the lavatory to empty them which means no more chance of a spill on my floors that would probably cause me to trip and break my neck. I like being alive, fully mobile, and not having to worry about stepping over cats that just have to see what is going on in the aquarium.
3) With the hand control on the nozzle you can shut off the flow so that you don't suck up reef sand. This makes cleaning a dream for me because losing sand is not something I want to do, and I'm sure the plumber would agree that it isn't good for the pipes.
4) While I cannot use it to backfill the tank I think that's just a fantastic feature for people who a freshwater tank, though I do wonder how much they would have to treat their water to make sure it's safe for the fish. If I could hook this up to my saltwater containers I would do so in a heartbeat and avoid having to lift five gallon jugs up and pour them into the aquarium.
5) This is very easy to clean; I just hold it over the sink and turn the water in reverse to keep everything flushed out. Hang it over your balcony or a railing for a few minutes and let it dry, coil it up, and store it easily. No mess, no stench, no scrubbing.
6) This water changer does not bother my fish. I have tried several other brands, everything from gravel vacuums to other siphon changers and for whatever reason my beautiful little aquatic friends had a terrible time of it. They would hide behind the rocks, try to burrow into the sand bed I was attempting to clean, and generally freak me out because I don't care to get stung. With the Aqueon they experience minimal stress which is a huge bonus, stressed fish don't live as long and I want my beautiful friends for many years.
7) Easy to trim hose. Really, it's that important.
8) The adapter is simple to affix and goes right onto the sink without any need for another part. While I'm sure I couldn't wrench it in place without breaking it who would want to do that in the first place? Treat it with as much respect as you would any other piece of tank equipment and you'll be fine.
9) This has great suction compared to many other that don't have quite enough. It will easily remove everything from annoying diatoms to hair algae (so long as it isn't on your rocks) and it's gentle enough not to aggravate your coral if you get close to them.
I really am enamored with this changer; it's simple, durable, almost half the price of other models, and works just as well. It's a relatively inexpensive and invaluable piece of aquarium equipment and it stores easily without taking all of your space. I don't foresee needing to replace this soon but when I do I won't be looking at anything else on the market.

Much better than Python! Make sure you tighten everything! Jun 07, 2010

I've been a Python user for about 4 years. I got sick of replacing parts on the Python, so I decided to shop around for a new water change system. The other reviewer is right. This water change system is of much higher quality than the Python (parts are made better and a better design...it also seems to have more suction). The only issue is to make sure the part that attaches to your sink is tight. Not just the top of the part that attaches to the sink faucet...but the inside of that. You need to stick your finger in there and tighten. It is a hexagon shape. Mine leaked big time when I shut of the valve. I was just about to send it back and realized it just needed to be tightened inside. I may have loosened it when I screwed it on the faucet. Python had a similar issue.

Essential for Cleaning the Fish Tank Apr 28, 2011
By D. Getz Our 50 gallon aquarium is in the middle of the house far from a door and a sink. This device has proven the easiest way to clean the tank, just drag one end out the closest door to the outside, hook it up to the garden hose, turn on the hose, and one person can vacuum the tank while the other waters the plants with 'pre-fertilized' water. We looked at the exact same product at our local pet chain center and it was double the amazon price. Makes purchasing here a no-brainer.

Great tool for large fish tank users Feb 08, 2011
By Showme We have two over 50 gallon tanks. Saw this and wanted plenty of hose to go to our sink where the tanks were and priced almost half as what pet stores wanted. It did not vacuum the larger heavier particles but for the most part did a great job on the murky water we stirred up the gravel with the suction end. Filling it was awesome. My roommate used to empty it with container and poured in a 5 gallon bucket and then dumped bucket until enough water was gone. Filling was a pain too. This has made his job so much easier and less painful.
