Have to buy additional part Dec 16, 2005
By Teresa Gallagher This item shipped very quickly, but as soon as I opened the box I was hit with the instructions that, unless the heater was going into a metal pond, an additional part must be purchased. Otherwise the heat element will wander over to the side of the pond and supposedly cause a fire hazard, although I'm a lot more considered about it burning a hole in the liner. They give you the part number for the guard, but they just tell you to ask your "dealer" for the part. They didn't even list a website address or have a phone number to call. I did manage to find the corporation through a web search, and am able to order the part online for about $10. Still, this is a POND heater, and no ponds are made of metal. This mean everyone will have to buy the extra part, so they should have included it in the box.

tank heater Sep 06, 2011
By Etbr Add for heater does not say that it can not be adjusted for thermostat.
The temperature settings are set to go on at 40Degrees, I needed a setting higher but could not adjust. Cannt be returned. Not worth buying.

great for horses. Jan 11, 2011

Only when this heater arrived are you informed that it may melt the sides of your pond if the pond is not made of metal.
How many of you have metal fish ponds?
You can buy a safety guard for the heater to protect the sides of the pond or you can simply place a 2by4 across the pond to prevent the heater from touching the sides.
This product gets hot enough to melt all ice in the pond. This is not necessary for your Koi.
The pond heater is designed for horse traughs, not for fish ponds.

LISTING LEFT OUT SOME DETAIL Nov 16, 2009
By P. Sudman ITEM WAS AS DESCRIBED. HOWEVER, THE DIRECTIONS SAY IF NOT USED IN A METAL TANK, YOU MUST USE A PROTECTION RING, SOLD SEPARATELY.
IF THAT INFO WAS LISTED ON THE LISTING, I WOULD OF PURCHASED IT ALONG WITH THE TANK DE-ICER.
