5Update Feb '12 - Continues to Work Great after Two Years  Jan 26, 2010
By Dan Zeitlin "Radio Addict"
TWO YEAR UPDATE:
We are in our second winter with the heated bath and much to the delight of a variety of our backyard birds, it just keeps on going.

ONE YEAR UPDATE:
We've had the heated bath operating for a year now (unplugged in the summer) and it continues to do its job well. I awoke to 18 degree F temperatures this morning and found the bath working as usual. We added an API 4WW Water Wiggler this summer, which is also doing its job. The bath survived two blizzards and lots of freezing weather over the past year so I upgraded my review from 4 to 5 stars. It has exceeded my expectations.

Works Great - Update After Two Blizzards:
We just went through three snowfalls totaling 30" including two blizzards. Temps varied from 20F to 35F. The heated bath kept working throughout. Both birds and squirrels used it for drinking water and an occasional bird bath. I can certainly recommend this bath as good value for the price.

Original Review - "Simple. Does what it's supposed to do":
Construction:
The bath is a simple plastic bowl with an encapsulated thermostatically-controlled heating element on the bottom. There is no temperature adjustment.
Mounting:
The unit comes with an extensive array of adjustable bracketry. The brackets should be usable without having to put holes into the supporting structure for many configurations of rail or post, provided the edges are square. I wanted to mount the bath on a deck railing that has 45 degree bevels, so the brackets were not usable for my rail. I used the basic mounting plate that was provided and screwed it directly into the railing. Installing it that way is a bit critical and I had to trim the attaching bolt to get a proper fit. Electrical connection requires only a simple extension cord. Mine is connected through an outdoor GFCI outlet.
Operation:
We have used the bath for about a month with below freezing temperatures about 50% of the time. The water never froze, nor did it get hot on the warmer days. It took a while for the birds to discover the bath. The squirrels have also discovered it and occasionally drink from it.

5Heated bird bath  Nov 20, 2008
By Joanna
I bought this heated bird bath last year. My husband thought I was crazy but now that he sees how much the birds love their "spa" he's changed his mind. The birds don't bathe much in the winter but they do congregate for a drink. The water stays liquid in even the coldest weather and I have not noticed a change in my electric bill due to the use of this bird bath. It is a great improvement over the other bird bath warmers that I have tried in the past. I would highly reccommend this product to all the bird lovers who like to see their feathered friends happy and healthy.

4A good purchase.  Nov 13, 2007

API 600 20-Inch Diameter Heated Bird Bath Bowl (no stand)

This bird bath was easy to install on our deck railing close to an outlet so it could be plugged in for the winter. It is nice to watch the birds during the cold months being able to drink when everything else is frozen.

5Best Birdbath I have ever owned!  Jan 08, 2008
By Marjorie L. Swanson "kenoshamarge"
We love this heated birdbath and so do the birds! It didn't quit fit onto our existing birdbath pedestal but we tweaked it just a bit and it fits fine. It is easy to clean too. We would reccomend it to anyone living in climates like ours here in Wisconsin.

4Doesn't Last Forever!  Feb 28, 2010
By sukibabe "Beagle Boss"
I have this bird bath, after a couple of years, the heating is not as good as it was when I bought it! I also see the price is about $24.00 more than when I bought mine at a bird store!
